Our Restoration

The restoration of Chaksu Haveli has been a meticulous, nine-year endeavor, aimed at preserving the haveli’s historic essence while carefully using traditional techniques and materials. Spearheaded by Manglam Arts, the project employs skilled local artisans who work with materials historically used in Rajasthani construction, such as slaked lime, fenugreek seeds, jute, ,buttermilk and jaggery. This traditional mix is applied to restore the haveli’s walls, reviving the strength and texture characteristic of the original structure.

Special care has been taken to source stone from Kolhada-Gangwada, a region near Sawai Madhopur, to replicate the original pillars, arches, and windows. Each piece is hand-dressed and fitted in accordance with indigenous methods, preserving the intricate carvings and architectural style of the bygone era. Additionally, the restoration team consulted historical excavation records, including findings by Dayaram Sahni, the first Indian director of the Archaeological Survey of India, to ensure that the haveli retains its authentic historical value.

This nine-year dedication to heritage has transformed Chaksu Haveli into not only a site of historical significance but also a living tribute to the art of traditional Rajasthani architecture. The haveli now stands as a restored cultural center, embodying the region’s past and offering visitors an authentic experience of Rajasthan’s architectural and artisanal legacy.
